EXPLORE YOUR COUNTRY

IPA Radom Region is not idle. The Bureau is trying to fulfill its commitments in the annual plan of activities - so far successfully.

Our next success was the weekend trip from 10-11 June to Dolnośląskie voivodeship (Lower Silesia). We do not only want to praise what is foreign, so in the field of tourism and sightseeing we discover so called Polish beads. This time we chose three places that can be visited in just two days, including the coach passage.

Twierdza Srebrna Góra (Silver Mountain Fortress)

Built in 1765-1777 is the largest mountain fortress in Europe. We came on the day of the 13th Festival of the Fortress. The event, apart from the native, attract “positively twisted” reconstructors from the Czech Republic and Hungary. Unforgettable impressions (colorful uniforms of soldiers, gunpowder smell, gunshots and cannons, and even piercing shockwaves) were provided by a historical spectacle of the 1807 battle between the Napoleon army besieging the fortress and the less numerous Prussian defenders. As in the nineteenth century, the fortress remained unconquerable. Then the cost of the battle was the complete destruction of the town lying at the foot of the fortress, today it is a village of small-town construction with a population of just over a thousand inhabitants.

Zamek Grodno (Grodno Castle)

Dating back to the 13th century, the castle is located in the southern part of the Wałbrzych Mountains at the top of Mount Choina, rising above the left bank of Bystrzyca river. At the foot of the mountain there is a reservoir Lake Lubachowskie. The building was raised without foundation, directly on the rock (which can be seen in the corners of some rooms, as if it was especially exposed at the joints of walls and floors). In the course of complicated history it had many owners. It did not avoid destruction as one of the objects affected by so called “the Swedish flood”, as well as numerous renovations changing its initial design. The effect is, among others the octagonal tower, which is now towering over the countryside being a great viewing terrace.

The mysterious, so called ''Underground city Głuszyca – Complex Osówka''

At the end of 1943, the Germans began construction of Riese (Giant) facilities in the Owl Mountains. There were defense systems on the ground and underground tunnels. The work was stopped in early 1945 due to the approaching of the Red Army and the Polish Army. Most of the work was carried out by prisoners of the nearby Nazi concentration camp Gross-Rosen, who often lost their lives because of the superhuman effort, illnesses and starvation.

The purpose of the work was kept secret. It was supposed to be Hitler's secret headquarters. Others say that halls were built for underground armaments factories to produce secret weapons. The actual purpose of the object is not known, and it is worth noting that the “underground city” is reported to be not more than 1/7 of the total land covered with still undiscovered constructions.

Conclusions? - The success of the tourist-tour is a good team, good pilot and tour guides. It is also good weather and suitable for the circumstance of nature footwear.
