Region IPA Radom in Szolnok Hungarian Goulash Festival
This year, for the sixteenth time, in Szolnok, a well-known and popular Hungarian Goulash Festival was held, in which for several years now a delegation of IPA Region Radom is also involved. This time we made a party of 16 persons. We arrived in Hungary on Thursday in the late afternoon.
In Tiszaföldvár Josef with Juliana greeted us with dinner during which we could taste Hungarian dishes, a.o. goulash soup, salad with peppers and sauerkraut. Friday started with a surprise. Immediately after breakfast we went to Budapest. We started with the tour of the police museum where we watched a very interesting exhibits related to the history of the Hungarian police, as well as the everyday work of criminal division. Then we went to the city centre where there is a modern building of both National Police HQ and Pest Provincial Police HQ. We were hosted by the Pest Provincial Police Commander – police brigadier dr. István Mihály. The commander presented us the Pest Provincial Police organizational structure and the everyday service problems of the Hungarian police officers. After a very pleasant dinner we left the headquarters to explore Budapest. First – the Hungarian Parliament building. Its size and construction resembles a flourish Palace of Westminster, built on the banks of the River Thames half a century earlier. Parliament was to be the symbol of the Great of Hungary, the second most important component of the Austro – Hungarian monarchy. Today, an imposing building on the Danube is not only a resident of the Hungarian Parliament, but also valuable regalia storage space, including the crown of St. Stephen, scepter, Globus cruciger and coronation sword that we had the opportunity to admire. To explore the city was not much time. Just a short drive across a chain bridge over the Danube and across the picturesque streets of Budapest, and then return to Tiszaföldvár. We still have to come here again to get to know a wonderful Hungarian capital better.
And finally Saturday - the day of culinary struggle. Early in the morning wakeup call and a trip to Szolnok. On site we were very warmly welcomed by members of the Szolnok Polish Self-Government with the ladies Krystyna Wieloch and Beata Horgos at the forefront. In cooking the stew attended all members of the Radom team. Some peeled vegetables, others cut onions, and the Masters of Cooking Stew Ceremony watched over the stew boiling in a cauldron. Venison stew came out great. In the Polish Diaspora team competition the IPA Region Radom took first place. Our stew tasted all deliciously. It just disappeared from the pot quickly and it was for us the greatest appreciation. The next day we had to go home. But we will certainly return. We are invited to come again next year.
